Greece is considered the cradle of western civilization. Since a very early age, an advanced political and philosophical culture developed in this country, which in the 5th century b.C. culminated in the "golden age". An exceptional flourishing of the arts, craft, and culture. The center of Greek life was the polis, the city-state. The Acropolis citadel was also the center of religious life, which for the Greeks had mostly social, rather than spiritual meaning. Still, oracles and sacrifices were widely worshipped in Greece.
